Stress Busters Association Has Special Visitor

TYF's SBA (Stress Busters Association) group was treated to a very special activity at last night's meeting when local fiber artist and designer Yumiko Alexander shared a bit of her Japanese culture with the group.

Yumiko, who was born and raised in Japan, explained the traditional Japanese custom of using decorative furoshiki cloths to wrap gifts, food, or any other items that need to be taken from place to place.

She then demonstrated several techniques for wrapping items of various sizes and shapes. (This is also how Yumiko keeps her knitting and crocheting projects neat and organized--she wraps each project in its own cloth before putting it into her knitting bag or basket.)
As part of the activity, SBA members decorated their own furoshiki cloths and practiced wrapping things with them.

Your also find one of Yumiko's patterns featured in the current edition of Knit N Style.

Here is a purse just completed by Gerry from one of Yumiko's patterns.

Since SBA is a "support group" for holiday knitting (and the holidays will be here before we know it!), this was a wonderful opportunity to see a new way to organize all of those wonderful gift projects in progress, and a great idea for wrapping those projects once they're finished and ready to be given to their lucky recipients!!!

Interested in learning more tips and tricks in your preparation for the holidays, or just looking for some inspiration, encouragement, and "support" as you work on your holiday gift projects? SBA is here!

The SBA group meets at TYF every Saturday from 6:00-8:30 p.m., with monthly activities and prize drawings for extra excitement along the way. We hope to see you there!!!
