TYF's Mystery Rug Knitalong
Sign Up Starts on 8/3

What makes a great mystery? Simple - not knowing how it's going to turn out. With all of TYF's Mystery Knitalongs, you know what the project will be, but not what it will look like. This takes a leap of faith, which to date almost 200 people have taken, that is full of fun.

For TYF's new Mystery Knitalong, Sherlock will weave a tale that will lead you through the mysteries of a magic rug. It's a Rug that can be either felted or not, depending on the gauge at which you choose to knit it. We are going to explore a chunky yarn and lots of color work as we knit a small rug or floor mat. You will have two choices: knit tight stitches on a smaller needle and simply block your finished piece, or knit loosely on a larger needle and then felt it. The pattern will work both ways, so you can decide how you want your rug--felted or not.

The recommended yarns are Deluxe Chunky by Universal Yarns and Poems by Wisdom Yarns, and the amount of yarn that it will take for this project will depend on whether you choose to make a felted or non-felted rug. The skill/experience level for the Mystery Rug (To Felt or Not To Felt) is Advanced Beginner to Intermediate. Participants should have some knitting and pattern reading experience.

How It Works
For those who are new to TYF’s Mystery KALs, here is how it works. A Mystery KAL is a knitalong where you know what type of item you are knitting, but you don’t know what the pattern is or how it will look when you are done. You come into the store, register, and choose your yarn colors. (Some out-of-state participants do this through email and phone.) Then TYF orders the yarn. At the time of registration, you can pay the entire cost for your Participation Fee and yarn, or you can pay 50% at registration and the other 50% when you pick up your yarn.
As soon as it arrives, you receive a call that your yarn is in. After you pick up your yarn, an invitation is emailed to you, at the email address you provided at registration, inviting you to join the KAL Group on Yahoo!. When you sign in to the Yahoo! Group, following the directions in the email, you will find Clue 1 (the first part of the pattern) waiting for you, along with other important information, including a list of dates when each clue will be posted.
The Yahoo! Group is set up specifically for the current Mystery KAL and it is a private, non-listed group, so only those participating in the KAL can join the group, and you can only join by invitation. Participants are free to post questions, report on their progress, and support each other through the group’s message board. TYF also has day and evening support groups for hands-on help.
If you have questions about our Mystery KALs, please feel free to give us a call.
