Multiple Sclerosis "Drawing" for "Shipwreck Shawl"

You can win this wonderful "Shipwreck Shawl" by making a minimum $5.00 donation at Tempe Yarn to the Multiple Sclerosis Society (read on for details.)

We've had a great response from people across the country who have been touched by MS.  If you can't come into the shop, you can call us at 480-557-9166 and make your donation and get a ticket using a credit card (Visa or Mastercard).

Multiple sclerosis is a disease that impacts many people in so many ways. This  beautiful Shipwreck shawl (Knitty, Spring 2009)* knit in Heritage sock weight yarn with literally  thousands of beads was a labor of love. The beads, which were each individually threaded onto nearly 1000 yards of yarn number in the thousands, and yet only represent less than half the number of people diagnosed with MS each and every year.  "Knit for this drawing, I hope to bring attention to this disease as well as to allow one person to truly enjoy the beauty of this work of art for many generations to come", said Cora Lee Meier.

Why The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and I Are Moving Towards a Cure
Having multiple sclerosis means that you may suddenly have blurry vision. Or that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason. Or that you may not always be able to walk. The symptoms of MS are different, and devastating, for everyone - the only certainty is that it will affect yet another person every hour of every day.

Why I Knit This Shawl
"Because I want to do something for myself and others who have been diagnosed - and because I want to do everything to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease", said Cora Lee. Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability.

Why You Should Buy A Drawing Ticket
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will use funds collected to not only support research for a cure tomorrow, but also to provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today. Because of your drawing ticket purchase, we are now getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

Drawing Information
Drawing tickets will be available for a minimum donation of $5.00 each.  The drawing will be on April 30.  The drawing will occur at 8 PM at Tempe Yarn & Fiber.

ALL proceeds from this drawing will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

*The Shipwreck shawl was designed by Bethany Kok who agreed to allow the use of her pattern for this drawing.
