Photo Op for Big Sock

Saturday (1/2) @ 2pm, we'd like to get as many people as possible who have knitted on the Big Sock to come to TYF for a final group picture.

Saturday will be the last full day that we will have to work on the sock.

Big Sock Continues to Grow, Come Be Part of Setting a Guinness World Record

Progress continues at Tempe Yarn on the Big Sock, as we've added 5 inches to the length of the sock over the weekend!


K. Skacel from Skacel Yarns was in the shop this week to knit on the Big Sock.

While here, K. Skacel donated ten bags of "Wonderful Wool" to be used for the Big Sock, plus some great addi Turbo needles.

Knit on the BIG SOCK for the Guinness World Record

First day to knit will be Saturday from 1 to 8 PM

BIG SOCK Project Want to be part of setting a newGuinness World Record?

Currently the largest sock in the Guinness World Record book measures 16 ft 3 in x 14 ft 1 in x 6 ft 2 in and was made by members of the sheep farmer association called Schafhaltervereinigung Inn-Hausruckviertel of Austria. The sock was presented at the annual sheep market in Schalchen, Austria on 28 March 2005.

Tempe Yarn & Fiber will be participating in the Bigsock project. This project to set a new world record started in October 2006, when Joanna Ratcliffe decided to hold a charity knitting event for National Knitting Week in the UK. The original idea was just a giant circular knit, but just days before the event the idea of creating a giant record breaking sock was born.

The Bigsock consists of 1,500 stitches cast onto circular needles and measures 23 feet in diameter. We estimate that the sock knitted to scale needs to be 13 feet long before we turn the heel.

The aim is for the sock to travel around the world being knit by as many people as possible, schools, knitting guilds, knitting groups, everyone who wants to get involved.

The Big Sock arrived at Tempe Yarn & Fiber today. We are now setting up the logistics and will be ready to start knitting this weekend.
