MASTER SPINNER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM COMING

Do you spin?  Have you ever wanted to grow your spinning skills to the point where you are recognized as a "Master Spinner?"  Well your time has come.  During 2011, you will have two opportunities here in Arizona to begin your journey to becoming a Master Spinner.

The Olds College Master Spinner Certificate Program consists of six progressive levels of classroom and independent study involving skill development, research studies and project assignments in the area of hand spinning of all major types of fibers, yarns and the end use of the spun yarns.  This is a program that spinners talk about around the world.

Each level is taught once per year. Levels 1-4 consist of a five day (30 hours) workshop, while Levels 5 and 6 are seven days (42 hours) in length. Each level is followed by an independent home study portion for those students working towards certification.  Those individuals who successfully complete the assignments in all six levels will receive a Master Spinner Certificate from Olds College.

The class fee per level is $450 (Canadian Dollars), plus materials fee of $65. The class content for Level 1 being held in 2011 will include selecting and preparing fibers, use of spinning equipment, spinning techniques, dyeing and general spinning knowledge. This is  a fabulous opportunity for spinners of all levels. This first level will cover the basics so beginners are most welcome. You may audit the class or do the homework and receive college credit and work toward the Master Spinner Certificate.

Here is the exciting part; in the past to participate in the Master Spinner Certification program you had to travel to Canada.  Now you have the opportunity to choose between taking the spinning sessions in Tucson or at Tempe Yarn & Fiber.  The program in Tucson will be held from February 21st to 25th.  To sign up for this location, contact Jill Holbrook at jillholbrook@earthlink.net by January 15th.

Once the class in Tucson is filled, Tempe Yarn will finalize the details and dates with Olds College to begin the classes at Tempe Yarn.  If you are interested in participating in this exciting opportunity give us a call (480-557-9166).  To be able to hold this we need at least 12 people signed up.

It should be noted that we plan on holding joint study groups between the Tucson & Tempe groups between the yearly class sessions.

We realize this is a commitment of time and money but for those who complete the program, you will reach a level of mastery that few others reach in a life time.  All of the fees go to Olds College to provide the instructor.  TYF will be donating the use of our space for the classes held in Tempe.

Sign up for level 1 and continue on your spinning journey with Jill & Terry who plan on becoming Master Spinners over the next six years.
