The Mystery "Crochet Along"
Show & Tell Had Some Great Market Bags

Tonight the Market Bag ladies (sorry about that) gathered to tell about their experiences and the fun they had making this first ever TYF Mystery Crochet Along project. Here are a few samples of the bags that were made.

For those of you who missed this, the pattern for this will be available in March.

The Mystery Knitalong Blanket Pattern Is Now Available as the"Q&A: A Lap Blanket"

This pattern was originally designed for a Mystery Knitalong (Mystery Blanket) and is now available as the "Q&A: A Lap Blanket". As we developed it, we thought this project could be used as a teaching or learning tool because it steps you through different stitch patterns. For each section of the blanket, you will be presented with a question. Your answer to that question will determine which stitch pattern you work over that area, so your blanket will be a “ewe+nique” reflection of you.

"Q&A: A Lap Blanket"

The story line of the Q&A: A Lap Blanket
Life is a mystery. Life is unpredictable. Life is a pathway. Life is about the big things. Life is about the little things. Our day-to-day lives create a picture of who we are. We all have things about us that people can see right away when they first meet us and those that people can’t see unless they look closely or take some time to get to know us.

Knitting and purling stitches together creates patterns. Small patterns come together to make up the larger picture. HMMMM………this is how we all are, too. We are each and all a wonderful collection of patterns.

We all have things in common that connect us, and we each have things that make us different and individual.

We welcome you to celebrate a common love of knitting and challenge as you create your own ewe+nique stitch sampler in this blanket.

There will be questions that correspond to each the 14 Sections that will make up your blanket. As you prepare to work each Section, choose the answer that fits you best and then see the corresponding pattern instructions that will tell you how to proceed with your knitting for that Section.

If you missed out doing the Mystery Blanket Knitalong, this is your chance to be part of Tempe Yarn history!

"Yarn Night On The Town" Was Lots of FUN

On the evening of February 14th, a great group of ladies joined the staff of Tempe Yarn for a "Yarn Night on the Town." This Yarn Tasting had a selection of wonderful Schaefer Yarns on the menu.

Terry started the evening by going over the various yarns on the menu.

As each new yarn was presented for tasting, garments made from that yarn were shown.

As the evening progressed, the ladies touched and snapped up their favorite Schaefer yarns.

Plus, each got to sample the six yarns being tasted.

Half way through the yarn tasting it was time to do some food tasting.

This wonderful fruit was provided by Edible Arrangements at 480 921 3660.

After the food break there were more yarns to sample.

But despite the great food, the Schaefer Yarn was the star of the night!

For those of you who missed the Yarn Tasting, the model garments from the trunk show are on display all this week, and on Saturday the Schaefer Yarn rep will be in the shop with one-of-a-kind yarns for your happy selection. For more information on this event click here.

Some New and Some Oldies but Goodies Books

Following on the success of the best-selling Nicky Epstein’s Knitted Flowers, Epstein gives crocheters a special gift: an equally exquisite collection of over 40 flowers—plus patterns for garments embellished with her floral designs. Featuring a beautiful layout and magnificent photography, this keepsake volume features stitch pattern flowers, petal constructed flowers, cord flowers, and the extremely popular felted flowers. Some make fanciful pieces of jewelry; others can adorn handicrafts for a fabulous finishing touch. Epstein offers yarn suggestions and colors, and encourages crocheters to experiment with all the interesting choices in the market today to create breathtaking corsages and bouquets. Among the pretty garden blossoms: a calla lily, blue and purple pansies, a delicate and lacy white wedding boutonniere, complete with a pearl center; and a selection of floral corkscrews.

If you have a strong sense of classic style and perfect fit and aren't aware of Meg Swansen or Elizabeth Zimmerman, this is the perfect introduction. It contains garments from issues 42-48 of "Woolgathering," a semi-annual newsletter from Schoolhouse Press. Easy-to-read print, concise instructions and lace/color charts as well as black and white photos of items featured. This book is also about expanding your techniques and to get you started knitting lace. An excellent book! 83 photos and charts.

I think every knitter should have one of these in his/her knitting bag. Whether or not you knit sweaters, this book of finishing techniques is very handy. Not only does it teach several methods of casting on, binding off, making seams, and everything else you need to successfully finish a project, it shows you what each technique will look like when finished. The benefits and drawbacks to each technique are also listed, so I can pick the best option for my particular application. A reproducible worksheet also allows me to keep a record of what methods I am using.

Felting — or boiling a knit item so it shrinks and the fibers mesh together — yields amazingly durable, beautiful pieces with unusual textures. It's the perfect technique for beginners because many mistakes just disappear during the washing process. An introduction explains all the knitting basics and felting fundamentals, from yarn selection to blocking and finishing the final product, and there's a wide variety of great things to create. With more than 20 stylish projects, you can knit a flower clutch bag, baby blanket, pillows, a snake toy, beret, tea cozy, slippers, scarves, multicolored mittens, and more.

Monday (2/9) Is The

By sampling (tasting) a yarn you get to enjoy it before you make a desision if it's what you want your next project to be made from. Plus, you are with other people who share your passion for fine yarn and good company.
