We Have The Most Caring Customers In the World @ Tempe Yarn

A few days ago we announced that we were going to do another charity project for the kids at the Ronald McDonald House in Phoenix.

For this project customers would be selecting specific members of the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles Family Tree (a family of hedgehogs) and making them for donation to the Ronald McDonald House.

Well over 70% of the characters (sorry family members) have been selected and the Huggable Hedgehogs (based on the Fiber Trends pattern) are being made.

The author of the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles Family Tree story, Tim Logan, is now looking at having to research different branches of the family tree so others who want to be part of this fun activity can participate.

If you are interested in making a family member from the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles Family Tree, stop by and sign up (there is no fee to participate) and help us help the kids at the Ronald McDonald House.

TYF Will Be Closed for Remodeling From June 28th till July 5th

Believe it or not, we have been in our new space now for over two years. So it's time to give the place a "once over" . . . . a little paint, some repairs, and a good cleaning, plus it's also time to do an inventory of everything in the shop. To do this, we will be closed from June 28th through July 5th.

So plan ahead and shop next week for all your yarn needs (see the Stash Stimulus Package). Then on July 6th come see what we accomplished!

Tempe Yarn's "Choose Your Own Adventure Retreat" . . . Last Call

The last day to sign up for the 3rd annual "Choose Your Own Adventure Retreat" is June 15th. We still have room for others to sign up...don't miss out on the fun.

Details:
Retreating from the real world; immersing yourself in something you feel passionate about; being with others who "get it" about that skein of yarn, project, fluff of fiber or pattern; uninterrupted time to "be" with your projects; and sharing in the energy of having that many fiber people in one space, those are just a few reasons why you will want to attend the Tempe Yarn & Fiber 2009 "Choose Your Own Adventure Retreat."
Another reason is that it's fun!

Where is it going to be you ask? Well this year it's going to be at the Clarion Hotel Scottsdale at 5101 North Scottsdale Road. Hotel Scottsdale offers fresh, contemporary accommodations and outstanding hotel amenities in a trendy, "Spanish Villa" setting. Participants are NOT required to stay at the hotel to participate in the Retreat, but it sure adds to the fun.

When is the great adventure?
We’ll kick off the weekend on Friday, July 17th with a Reception from 8-10 pm so you can begin to decompress before the serious fun begins on Saturday.

Then on Saturday, July 18th the doors will open at 9:00am for your journey into the 2009 “Choose Your Own Adventure Retreat.” A very unstructured agenda is still in the planning stages but activities will continue till 10:00pm. We'll start again on Sunday morning at 9:00am and continue till 3:00pm when we'll close out the adventure.

For more details, call, stop by or email us and we'll get you signed up while there are spaces still left.

Family Tree of the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles - The Real Story

On May 22, 2009, we first introduced you to the "Family Tree of the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles" with the following:

"The Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles have long been the subject of muttered whisperings and speculations as to actually why the family was, as they say, "The 'way' they are!" To the current generation of Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles this attention is either rigorously avoided or exuberantly sought out. It simply depends on the tilt of their Tiggy-Winkle spines.

For my part I am quite pleased to be an Edefedd Tiggy-Winkle thank you very much. No, wait, I dare say, I am Proud to be an Edefedd Tiggy-Winkle! I have long wanted to write a true, accurate, and historical account of the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles, but must confess, what with all that hibernating and shopping by night stuff, it's been slow to get the word out among the hedge rows. I have been able to gather some details as far back as Great-grandfather Woolstuck Edefedd Tiggy-Winkle and will share what I can for those who want to know. And for those of you who don't want to know - oh, hedgefarkle, just go sleep away the winter in your plain, blaugh little spineys! "

Now we want to invite you to join us on a special summer charity knitting project. The goal is to knit 25 hedgehog family members for the children who visit Phoenix Ronald McDonald House while they or their siblings are receiving health care in the Valley.

We envision the project to work as follows: You read the family members’ names and personal descriptions as written by Great-grandson Nimmy Edefedd Tiggy-Winkle (a.k.a. author Tim Logan). Then you choose a character you want to create using the Fiber Trends Huggable Hedgehogs Pattern, and let your imagination guide you in making a hedgehog to best resemble your interpretation of the description of the family member you chose. You can use colored wool and textured novelty yarns to express your vision of the character, and some of you may wish to make accessories such as hats and scarves to add to your family character’s personality.

The only Rules: Have fun! Be creative! Study your character and make a totally unique hedgehog. Get crazy! The crazier the character the more fun it will be for a child at the Phoenix Ronald McDonald House.

I want to personally acknowledge and thank Tim Logan for his remarkable creativity in coming up with both the concept and the story line of the "Family Tree of the Edefedd Tiggy-Winkles." Through his creativity and your participation we will be able to touch the lives of at least 25 children at the Ronald McDonald House.

Stop by Tempe Yarn and check out the family tree and select your character.

Mystery Shawl Crochet-Along

The crocheting community has been asking for another Mystery Crochet Along, so here you go. Sign up will be from June 6-20, 2009 with invites to the Yahoo group going out on July 6, 2009.
For this Mystery Crochetalong, we are making a Shawl. The yarn that will be used is Heritage by Cascade, and it will take five skeins for this project. The skill/experience level for this Mystery project is Advanced Beginner to Intermediate. Participants should have some crocheting and pattern reading experience. There is a $10 participation fee to be part of this crochet-along.

Weekly Mystery Crochetalong support/social groups will be held on Tuesdays from Noon-2:00 pm and from 6:00-8:00 pm. The Show and Tell date will be posted in the Yahoo! Group Information page. Even if you don't finish your project, we encourage you to attend the Show and Tell to meet your fellow Mystery CAL members in person.

As always, Clue 1 will be available in the Yahoo! Group so participants can get started once they have joined the group online. A schedule for the remaining Clues will also be provided, and they will be spaced out so that participants can expect the average crocheter to do about one hour of crocheting per day.

What's New @ TYF: FIBERSPHERES

You've seen them in magazines and on the web, now come in and see one for real - - The Fibersphere™

"The Ultimate in Fiber Protection"

Now you can protect your yarn from any unwanted damage or outside elements. The easy opening sphere allows for changing of yarns and projects without the need for cutting your running yarn in order to remove it from The Fibersphere™. The highly polished cavity allows your yarn to flow smoothly inside of the sphere to help avoid tangling. The smooth patented opening will not snag or catch your running yarn while knitting or crocheting your project.

We have in stock the large clear Fiberspheres.

We also have the All In One Pens from Fibersphere. Measure and write with one handy device.
